Devs Can Target Windows Phone Users in More Markets.

Windows Phone application developers are now able to target more users in more markets around the world with their software, Microsoft has just announced.
The Redmond-based company has updated the App Hub so that it would offer developers the possibility to distribute apps and games in 6 new markets: Argentina, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Peru and the Philippines.

The downside, however, is that the Windows Phone Marketplace is not yet available for users in these countries.

However, Microsoft is expected to push the storefront to these areas soon and to announce some more info on its availability in the near future.

“You should be aware that applications submitted to three of these six new markets – China, Indonesia and Malaysia – will be subject to additional requirements due to local laws, regulations or norms,” Microsoft’s Todd Brix notes in a blog post.

“You can find information on these additional requirements in the Application Certification Requirements.”

Microsoft decided to open the submission process early for developers interested in targeting the said markets so as to have applications available when the Marketplace becomes available in those areas.

New requirements for developers will slow the certification process down a bit. However, developers can benefit from this “early access period” to have apps in the storefront in due time.

“As usual, when submitting either an update or a new application in App Hub, you can choose to publish the app “worldwide” to the full set of 41 markets to you can select specific markets,” Todd Brix explains.

“When you select worldwide, the additional requirements of the new markets apply. As a result, if your application fails certification, you will need to either update and resubmit your app to meet all worldwide requirements, or de-select the markets where your application will not meet requirements.”

Microsoft also made a series of enhancements to the App Hub, and resolved some bugs in the developer portal. Some of the improvements were meant to streamline the payout process. Changes to reporting have been performed as well.

“We’re pleased to start the New Year off by expanding markets to which you can submit apps for distribution, and will provide more information on the consumer experiences for those markets when we are ready to go live,” Todd Brix concludes.
