PARIS: Huawei has unveiled its latest flagship
smartphone, the Ascend P7, describing the LTE Android handset as its
most advanced to date.
The Ascend P7 has a similar design to its predecessor, the Ascend P6, and is built to be as thin and light as possible, measuring just 6.5mm thick and weighing 124g.
The device features several top-end internal components, including a 5in 1920x1080 IPS, 441ppi display and custom 1.8GHz quad core HiSilicon Kirin 910T processor.
The Ascend P7 will feature 13MP and 8MP cameras and advanced LTE 4G connectivity technology. The 13MP rear camera will offer a DSLR-level Image Signal Processor which Huawei claims will radically improve image quality and low light performance.
Huawei consumer group chief executive Richard Yu listed the Ascend P7's camera sensors and advanced 4G connectivity as key selling points, claiming that they will let it outperform competing top end handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Apple iPhone 5S.
"We wanted to make the Ascend P7 the most elegant and powerful phone available. To do this we did several things. We redefined the camera experience on the Ascend P7. These days people want their smartphone to also be their camera so they can capture exciting moments in their lives. So we worked make the P7's camera the best," he said.
"On top of this we gave it 4G. This is because 4G is here this year globally and everyone in the world wants it. We are the largest supplier of 4G in the world, we have the most patents and we want to leverage this to become a leader here."
The Ascend P7 will be powered by a 2,500mAh battery and come with Google Android 4.4.2 Kitkat overlaid with Huawei's custom Emotion UI 2.3 skin. Emotion UI adds a host of custom features including over 100 user themes. The themes alter Android's user interface to optimise the phone for specific situations.
